Rachelle Ferrell (born 1961 in Berwyn , Pennsylvania ) is an American musician of African American descent. Although she has also had success as an R&B , pop, and gospel singer , she is best known for her jazz songs .

Live and act

Ferrell started singing when she was six years old. She received classical lessons on violin and piano ; As a teenager she performed professionally with both instruments and as a singer. She enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston , where she honed her musical skills in arranging, singing, and songwriting.

Her first album First Instrument (1990) was only released in Japan. Ferrell's 1992 album of the same name was released through Capitol Records. She has also submitted jazz albums to Blue Note Records . Ferrell is known for her vocal range and her ability to sing in the whistle register .
