Victor Dvoskin

Victor Dvoskin (actually Viktor Borisovich Dwoskin , Russian Виктор Борисович Двоскин * 21st June 1948 in Dnepropetrovsk ) is from the Soviet Union originating, American jazz - bassist , composer and university teacher.

Dvoskin was active as a musician from the early 1970s and one of the most famous jazz bassists in the former Soviet Union in the 1980s. He was a member of the Allegro formation for nine years , led by the pianist Nick Levinovsky . In 1988 he came to the US for the first time as a member of the Igor Bril Trio, where they performed in New York's Village Vanguard .

Dvoskin then emigrated to the United States in 1993 and settled in Washington, DC . He had his own quartet and also worked with Gary Burton and Don Alias ; He was a member of the Ensemble Partners of Crime with Ryan Kisor and Paul Bollenback and a Russian-American band, which was directed by Louis Scherr, Jazznost . His album Joint Venture , which was released on Timeless Records , contained six compositions by Dvoskin.

In 1990 Dvoskin's first album was created live under his own name when a performance by his quartet of Russian musicians was recorded at the Grenoble Jazz Festival . Victor Dvoskin toured Russia several times, including with the singer René Marie , as well as France and Israel. He has also worked with Joe Henderson , Bobby Hutcherson , Gary Bartz , Joe Locke , Jeff Tain Watts , Nick Brignola , Jon Faddis, and Christian McBride .

Dvoskin released the album There's a Small Hotel in 2000 ; he teaches at Towson University and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia .
