Stephan Urwyler

Stephan Urwyler (born October 4, 1961 in Zurich ) is a Swiss composer and jazz guitarist and singer.

Urwyler studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern , where he has lived since then. He worked as a guitarist and singer in the rhythm and blues group Three Dee since the mid-1980s . From 1986 and 1994 he participated in tours, radio and television appearances and three albums of the City West Quartet , of which he was one of the founders in 1986 with Rolf Häsler, Johannes Schaedlich and Christian Scheuber . He played with Ron McClure , Tim Hagans , Roman Schwaller and Giorgos Antoniou , among others .

For three years he was a member of the This Masquerade group . From the late 1990s to 2006 he was the guitarist of the Heimatland Orchestra . He also works regularly with the In Mission of Tradition group. He is a member of the Biel-Bienne Jazz and ImproOrchestra , with which he released the album Derwish-Suite in 2013 . He can also be heard on albums by Tinu Heiniger , Joachim Rittmeier , Daniel Erismann and the City West Quartet . In spring 2016 the EP Täg wie dä was released , presenting Urqwyler dialect blues.

Urwyler has been leading his own trio since the mid-1990s, with whom he has so far recorded three albums. In addition to pop, rock and jazz music, he composed two symphonies and classical chamber music.
