Casey Benjamin (* 1978 in Queens , New York ) is an American saxophonist , keyboardist , producer and songwriter .

Life

Benjamin is from South Jamaica, a neighborhood in the New York borough of Queens . He attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Manhattan . In 2002 he performed with DJ Logic at the Montreux Jazz Festival . He also worked with Arto Lindsay , Joe Chambers , Mark Adams, Betty Carter and Buster Williams . As a keyboard player he is part of the new wave duo HEAVy and produced their album JazzMoney $$ . He's currently playing with musicians as diverse as Q-Tip, A Tribe Called Quest , Mos Def , Stefon Harris , Marcus Strickland , Regina Litvinova , Robert Glasper and Victor Bailey , with whom he performed at the 2010 Leverkusener Jazz Days .
