DJ Logic (* 26. February 1972 in New York City as Jason Kibler ) is an American turntablist who regularly in jazz context works. There he made “the turntable an instrument of equal standing” ( Wolf Kampmann ).

Live and act

Kibler grew up in the Bronx and was already playing as a DJ at festivals and local events at the age of fourteen , using albums alongside hip hop and funk , jazz and rock (music) even then .

In 1988 the drummer Richie Harrison brought him into the rock band Eye & I , with whom he worked for a year. a. toured and recorded an album as an opener for Living Color and Body Count . This is where he got the name DJ Logic. The following year he became a member of Vernon Reid's band My Science Project . He also recorded with clarinetist Don Byron and toured Europe and South America with Graham Haynes and his band.

In 1996 he appeared for the first time with the funk-jazz formation Medeski, Martin & Wood and in the New York Knitting Factory . After touring together, the Blue Note album Combustication was created in 1998 .

In 1999 DJ Logic founded his own band Project Logic , first as a trio with Melvin Gibbs and Skoota Warner , later as a quintet, and recorded the debut album Project Logic . He brought musicians from the M-Base circle together with those from the downtown scene. He was also on Karl Denson's album Dance Logic No. 2 involved. In 2002 he worked in a duo with Rob Wasserman and founded the Yohimbe Brothers with Vernon Reid , with whom he also recorded albums and toured as a life band. In 2003 he toured with Ben Harper and Jack Johnson as well as John Mayer and Maroon 5 . In 2006 his third solo album Zen of Logic was released . With Mickey Hart he worked on the album The Road to Jajouka (2013) by the Master Musicians of Jajouka .
