Frank Runhof

Frank Runhof (born April 25, 1960 in Wiesbaden ) is a German modern jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , flute , arrangement ).

Runhof studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and at the Hilversum Conservatory . From 1985 to 1987 he played in the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Hesse. Between 1986 and 1992 he was a member of the Frankfurt Jazz Big Band . From 1990 he arranged for the hr big band , the NDR big band , the SWR big band and also for Benny Bailey , Bill Ramsey and Ferdinand Povel . He founded his own big band Kicks'n Sticks and his sextet High Voltage , but also works with Christoph Neubronner , Thomas Jungbluth and Swing De Luxe .

From 1991 to 1997 he had a teaching position for jazz theory and arrangement at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . Since 1992 he has been teaching saxophone, big band and theory at the Ludwigshafen City Music School. He also heads the Ludwigshafen student big band Jazz-Attack , which won the 2004 and 2005 Skoda big band competition in Worms.

In 1987 Runhof and his quintet received the Darmstadt Jazz Prize.
