Markus Burger (composer)

Markus Burger (born September 30, 1966 in Wittlich ) is a German pianist and composer who works in both jazz and New Age .

Live and act

Burger, who grew up in Pünderich , received piano lessons from the age of eight. He won classical music competitions early on; In 1993 he was a winner of Jugend jazzt in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. He has been on several international tours with the Rhineland-Palatinate Jazz Orchestra. From 1989 to 1990 he studied with Rob Madna and Tine Schneider at the Hilversum Conservatory, then briefly attended the popular music course in Hamburg with Udo Dahmen and then from 1990 to 1993 at the Folkwang Hochschule .

Since 1989 he has been working with the saxophonist Jan von Klewitz , with whom he presented four duo albums with Spiritual Standards by 2008 . In 1992 he toured with Cecil Payne and Patches ; he has also given concerts in Banff with Kenny Wheeler , Norma Winstone and Stefan Lottermann . In 1997 he was a finalist in the Monaco International Composition Competition. In 2005 he recorded the album Genesis with Mat Marucci . With Joe LaBarbera and Bob Magnusson he forms the trio Accidental Tourists ( Live in LA , 2010). From 2010 to 2017, Burger gave concerts in North and South America as the musical ambassador of the Luther Decade .

As a piano professor, he is a member of the faculty at Fullerton College in Fullerton, California .
