Marcel Papaux (* 1960 in Friborg ) is a Swiss jazz - drummer .

Marcel Papaux studied at the Conservatory of Music in Friborg and took additional courses with Americo Bellotto and the drummer Ronnie Stephenson . At that time his musical interests ranged from classical music to rock and light music to jazz. Only the pianist Max Jendly was able to convince him to turn primarily to jazz music.

From 1988 to 1996 Papaux played under Yvan Ischer in the big band of Lausanne . During this time he had the opportunity to work with guest musicians such as Johnny Griffin , Toots Thielemans and Fred Hersch . Papaux also played for several years with the trumpeter Matthieu Michel and the pianist Thierry Lang as well as in Patrick Muller's trio . From 1993 he belonged to the quintet of guitarist Harald Haerter and has been on stage on tours through Europe and the USA together with musicians such as Dewey Redman , Gary Bartz , Chris Potter , Arthur Blythe , Johannes Enders , Joe Lovano and Michael Brecker . He also worked regularly with the guitarist Gérald Zbinden and the drummer Alain Tissot . In 2000 he was one of the founding members of the unusual drum quartet Room 02 as well as of the newly founded trio Cholet- Känzig -Papaux . The latter worked occasionally with saxophonists Rick Margitza and Charlie Mariano . Since 2003 he has been part of the Christoph Stiefel Trio, which was supplemented by bassist Patrice Moret until 2008 . In the current line-up, this has been replaced by Thomas Lähns .

He has continued to accompany musicians such as Mick Goodrick , Jimmy Woode , Phil Woods , Lee Konitz , Richard Galliano , Art Farmer , George Gruntz , Nils Petter Molvær , Michel Portal , Wolfgang Muthspiel , Paolo Fresu and John Taylor at concerts and festivals .
