Live and act

Stiefel has concentrated on his work as a pianist and composer since 1980. As a sideman with various bands, the formation Andreas Vollenweider & Friends took him on major concert tours in the USA, Canada, Europe, Brazil, Japan and Australia for five years from 1984. After his own earlier projects, he formed his own jazz trio / quartet in 1990, with which he has so far produced seven albums and given many concerts in Europe with various line-ups (including Peter Erskine , Charlie Mariano , Michel Benita , Heiri Känzig , Jeff Hirshfield , Dieter Ilg , Roberto Gatto , Joël Allouche , Matthieu Michel , Nat Su , Marcel Papaux , Thomas Lähns or Lisette Spinnler ). From 1995 onwards he mainly pursued the further development of his concept of isorhythms .

From 2005 he expanded this with a solo project: “Isorhythms for Solo Piano” (piano & electronics). In 1997 he was awarded a composition commission by the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia to write a concerto for piano, two percussion and string orchestra for the Zurich Chamber Orchestra . The world premiere took place on July 10, 1998. He also composes, arranges and produces music for advertising, radio plays and films such as Vollenweider - The Story of a Murderer . Stiefel was a participant in the Jazz Piano Festival 2011 in Prague, which was recorded by Czech radio and made available to broadcasters across Europe.

Stiefel is a lecturer at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences , Jazz department.
