Joël Allouche

Joël Allouche (born November 6, 1960 in Bougie , Algeria ) is a French jazz drummer of Algerian origin.

Allouche, who received his first musical inspiration from music from the Orient in a family environment , learned to play the drums as an autodidact . After moving to Montpellier , he became a professional musician at the age of 16. From 1979 he played with the guitarist Philippe Caillat , with whom he also appeared at international festivals and made two records. He then belonged to the “Reflexionen” quartet between 1983 and 1987 with Urs Leimgruber , Don Friedman and Bobby Burri . He then worked with Maurice Magnoni , Enrico Rava and Palle Danielsson and in 1988 in Marc Ducret's trio . He then worked in the groups of François Jeanneau , Michel Portal , Dominique Pifarély , Doudou Gouirand , Gérard Pansanel and Nguyên Lê . Since 1997 he has been playing in a trio with saxophonist Éric Barret and guitarist Serge Lazarevitch . In recent years he has also recorded with Christoph Stiefel , Furio Di Castri and Soriba Kouyaté . He also played with Claude Martí , Henri Texier , Kenny Wheeler , John Surman , Barre Phillips , John Taylor , Paul Bley and Dino Saluzzi . Allouche teaches at various schools and conservatories in the south of France, particularly in Montpellier and Sète .
