Dino Saluzzi
Timoteo "Dino" Saluzzi (born May 20, 1935 in Campo Santo (Ingenio San Isidro), Province of Salta , Argentina ) is an Argentine bandoneon player and composer . According to Martin Kunzler, he is the “vital improviser of Tango Nuevo .” He upgraded it rhythmically, opened it up as Tango Libre - the programmatic title of one of his compositions - made it capable of dialogue with many varieties of improvised music and made it its own form of ethno-jazz created.
Live and act
Saluzzi received lessons on the bandoneon in the family. During his studies in Buenos Aires he became a member of the Estable Symphony Orchestra , which played for Radio El Mundo . At this time he also met Astor Piazzolla . In 1956 he went back to Salta in order to further develop his compositional skills. In the early 1970s he was involved in Gato Barbieri's recordings , in which free jazz and Argentine music were combined. He toured other Latin American countries with Mariano Mores . As a soloist and arranger he worked for a touring production Sinfonia de Tango , with which he could be heard in Japan in 1977. In 1979 he founded his own Cuarteto Dino Saluzzi , whose appearances in Europe, for example at the JazzFest Berlin , were received with great enthusiasm. He is co-founder of the experimental ensemble "Música Creativa", which performed jazz, folklore and chamber music. In 1982 he became a member of the " George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band ". With his solo album Kultrum , recorded in the same year , he made his breakthrough in Europe.
He played concerts in Germany with Charlie Mariano in different constellations and recorded several records with Wolfgang Dauner and him (e.g. One Night in '88 , Live in Concert ). He also worked with numerous musicians from Europe and the USA, such as Louis Sclavis , Enrico Rava , Tomasz Stańko , Don Pullen , Al DiMeola , David Friedman , Myriam Alter , Erika Stucky , Maria João , Palle Danielsson , Renaud Garcia-Fons , Charlie Haden , Enzo Favata , Jon Christensen and Edward Vesala . In Buenos Aires he is currently (2015) performing with the Dino Saluzzi Quinteto together with family members.
