Myriam Alter (born September 26, 1945 in Brussels ) is a Belgian jazz pianist who has emerged primarily as a composer .

Live and act

Alter, who comes from a Sephardic family, received classical piano lessons from the age of eight. At the age of 15 she interrupted her occupation with music and devoted herself to other interests. She studied psychology at the University of Brussels , worked in an advertising agency and opened a dance studio, which she ran for seven years. At the age of 36 she began to play the piano again and soon afterwards began to compose.

She founded her own band with Ben Sluijs , Gino Lattuca, Michel Benita and Jan de Haas and in 1994 released her debut album Reminiscence . She achieved her international breakthrough with the album Alter Ego . Five years later she presented an album with compositions of the Tango Nuevo , If , which was followed in 2007 by an album with a Brazilian influence, Where Is There . Unlike on these albums, she can also be heard as a pianist on It Takes Two .
