Reviews
Julia Levin wrote in 2001 on www.filmcritic.com that the film was one of those strange films in which foreign filmmakers would amuse themselves by filming Russian classical literature without understanding it or its historical background ( “one of those strange international hybrids in which foreign filmmakers (...) entertain themselves with the idea of filming Russian classical literature without having a scintilla of understanding about its meaning, its idiosyncrasies, its elusiveness, and its historical basis " ). He does not reflect the depth of any of the characters and is largely "hot air" .
