Doudou Gouirand

Doudou Gouirand (actually Gérard Gouirand , born April 28, 1940 in Nice ) is a French jazz saxophonist .

Gouirand was a student of Don Cherry , with whom he performed in Sweden and later all of Europe and with whom he met musicians like Johnny M'Bizo Dyani , Okay Temiz , Trilok Gurtu , Djaya-Deva , Palle Danielsson and Bobo Stenson .

He returned to France in the late 1970s, where he initially worked with Okay Temiz ' Oriental Wind and the Brazilian group Teca & Ricard . He has been composing and releasing his first albums as a band leader with his own band World Music Company since the early 1980s .

Between 1996 and 1998 Gouirand toured with the trio Third Dimension (with Mal Waldron and Jeanne Lee ) through France and Switzerland. He also led a project with Gérard Pansanel on the music of the film composer Nino Rota , performed Lappish music with the singer Inga Yuuso , Les Saisons du Paradis based on texts by Jean Giono and the stage project Associated Improvisers Garrigues-Sahel , in which traditional African to French improvisation music met.
