Gérard Pansanel

Gérard Pansanel (born February 29, 1952 in Montpellier ) is a French jazz guitarist.

Pansanel is a musical autodidact ; since 1968 he has performed with rhythm and blues and rock groups. From 1975 he worked in Paris as a jazz musician, a. a. with Aldo Romano , Jean-Claude Naimro , Bob Brault and Bernard Lubat ; he also went on tours with Michel Fugain .

In 1982 Pansanel stayed in Los Angeles, where he perfected his playing with musicians such as Joe Diorio , Pat Martino , Robben Ford and John Abercrombie and received a diploma. In 1985 he released his first album Calypso . In 1987 he played with Don Cherry and Doudou Gouirand and recorded the Forgotten Tales album with them . In 1989 he toured with Enrico Rava .

From 1989 to 1991 he was guitarist with the Orchester National de Jazz under the direction of Claude Barthélémy . He played on two of the orchestra's albums: Claire and Jack-Line . In the 1990s he completed a project with Doudou Gouirand with the music of Nino Rota with tours and concerts throughout Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. In 1997 he worked with the songwriter Claude Martí and the accordionist Antonello Salis as composer and musician on Éric Rohmer's film Herbstgeschichte . The following year he went on a tour through Russia.

At the Internationales de la guitare 1999 Pansanel appeared in a duo with John Stowell and in a quartet with Enrico Rava, Aldo Romano and Michel Benita . His G. Pansanel Transalpino Project (with Claudio Pontiggia , Heiri Känzig , Antonello Salis and Patrice Héral ) was performed at the Festival de Junas 2002 . In the same year he appeared at the Internationales de la guitare with Henri Texier , Paolo Fresu , Claude Barthélémy, Serge Lazarevitch , Antonello Salis, Frédéric Monino and Joël Allouche .

He accompanied Claude Martí for many years, but was also in the studio with Léo Ferré . He also worked with Jean-Marc Padovani , Lester Bowie , Lionel Suarez , Paco Ibáñez , Soriba Kouyaté , Steve Hillage , Phil Manzanera and Neneh Cherry .
