Philipp Schaufelberger (born August 30, 1970 in Göttingen ) is a Swiss jazz guitarist and composer .

Live and act

Schaufelberger received classical guitar lessons and studied at the jazz department of the Lucerne School of Music , where he graduated in 1995. During his studies he was already active in various formations in the field of jazz and related music styles, for example in Giancarlo Nicolai's guitar orchestra, "ZAP" (with Hans Feigenwinter , Bänz Oester and Kaspar Rast ), "Boxer" (with Mich Gerber and Fabian Kuratli ) and also performed in Canada with Kenny Wheeler's Banff Jazz Orchestra . In 1994 he became a member of Harald Haerter's quartet , with whom he toured numerous festivals, European and US tours between 1994 and 1999 (also with Dewey Redman ). Since 1993 he has worked with Daniel Mouthon (e.g. “Säugers Flug” and “Air à l'enverre”, a multimedia opera together with the ensemble für neue musik zurich ).

He has been playing in various Pierre Favre formations since 1998 ( Singing Drums , Pierre Favre Ensemble , The Bridge with Bänz Oester , in the last several increasingly also in a duo, Fleuve , 2006). He continued to tour several times with Michael Brecker , in 2003 also with Paul Motian's trio . Since 2000, alongside Nils Wogram, he has been part of the core of Lucas Niggli's “Zoom”, which has also been expanded to include musicians such as Barry Guy , Peter Herbert and Claudio Puntin and has been guest at international festivals since 2002. He also worked with Jürg Halter and with The Wolfpack . In an extended version of Michael Jaegers band Kerouac he plays as well as Greg Osby .

Schaufelberger was also involved in numerous radio plays for Swiss and German broadcasters. In 2008 he wrote the radio play “Das weisse Lauschen” with Jörg Köppl, where he examined the content of the Basel sound archive.

His program The Fizrok Show can be heard every two months on Radio LoRa .
