Oliver Johnson
Oliver Johnson (* 5 December 1944 in Oakland , † 6. March 2002 in Paris ) was an American drummer of modern jazz .
Since the late 1960s, Johnson lived in Paris, where he initially derived mainly with others from the United States free jazz musicians such as Alan Silva , Anthony Braxton , Dewey Redman , Sam Rivers , Archie Shepp , the Art Ensemble of Chicago , Oliver Lake and David Murray worked. Between 1978 and 1989 he was a member of Steve Lacy's group . Then he played in a trio with Kent Carter and Takashi Kako . He also worked with Jean-Luc Ponty , George Duke , Hampton Hawes , Bobby Hutcherson , Maynard Ferguson , Yusef Lateef , Attila Zoller , Johnny Griffin , Tiziana Ghiglioni and François Chassagnite .
Johnson was found murdered on a bench on Rue Pierre Lescot . According to the police investigation, a resident murdered him.
