Rudolf Matthies

Rudolf Matthies (born December 31, 1909 in Zeitz ; † March 2, 1996 in Elsterwerda ) was a German homeland researcher and educator .

Life

After graduating from high school in Zeitz ( Saxony-Anhalt ), Matthies studied pedagogy at the University of Leipzig . From 1932 onwards, his studies were followed by a legal traineeship in Weissensand in the Vogtland region , followed by a regular job in Lengenfeld . From 1936 he became a teacher in Theisa near the spa town of Bad Liebenwerda in southern Brandenburg . Already here he devoted himself to the local history of the then Liebenwerda district and published articles in the local history series "Schwarze Elster". From January 1, 1939, Matthies became a teacher at the Würdenhainer village school. A little later he was called up for military service in 1940 , from which he returned at the end of 1945. Matthies, who later qualified as a subject teacher for mathematics, became head of the Haida -Würdenhain school in 1961 , which he remained until he retired.

In addition to his work as a teacher, Rudolf Matthies, who among other things also worked for the Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Potsdam, dedicated himself to local research in the old district of Bad Liebenwerda . In 1953 he wrote the "History of the Village of Würdenhain" as part of the National Reconstruction Agency (NAW) . In addition, Matthies wrote numerous articles and collected regional sagas, which were published, among other things, in the "Home Calendar for the Bad Liebenwerda District".
