Steve Potts (born January 21, 1943 in Columbus , Ohio ) is an American jazz saxophonist.

Live and act

Potts studied architecture in Los Angeles and also music with Charles Lloyd . He later went to New York, where he became a student of Eric Dolphy and performed with musicians such as Roy Ayers , Richard Davis , Joe Henderson , Reggie Workman and Chico Hamilton .

In 1970 Potts moved to Paris. There he performed with Brigitte Fontaine , Dexter Gordon , Johnny Griffin , Slide Hampton , Mal Waldron , Ben Webster and Hal Singer , and in 1973 he formed a band with Christian Escoudé , Boulou Ferré , Oliver Johnson and Gus Nemeth . During this time he also met Steve Lacy , in whose groups he subsequently worked regularly and performed internationally.

In 1982 he appeared as a companion to Jessye Norman . In 1990 he founded a new band with Richard Galliano , Jean-Jacques Avenel and Bertrand Renaudin , after 2000 a quintet with Michael Felberbaum , Michel Edelin , Stéphane Kerecki and Richard Portie . In addition, he also composed several film scores.
