Afrika Mkhize (* around 1980) is a South African jazz pianist .

Afrika Mkhize, son of jazz pianist Themba Mkhize , began playing the piano at the age of six; at the age of eleven he received classical piano lessons at the Funda Center Music School in Soweto . At the age of 15 he was able to continue his studies at the National School of the Arts; In 1999 he moved to the Pretoria Technikon , where he studied jazz , composition and arrangement .

Since then he has worked as a pianist, arranger and music producer in the South African jazz scene. a. with Tlali Makhene , Themba Mkhize, Sibongile Khumalo , Kabelo, Nokukhanya Dlamini , Zim Ngqawana , Dorothy Masuka and Miriam Makeba , as well as with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra in the Jazz Meets Symphony Orchestra project under the direction of Prince Lengoasa . He participated in recordings by Vusi Mahlasela , Marcus Wyatt , Moses Khumalo and Adam Glasser . In Europe he is currently (2016) working with Ayanda Sikade and Ganesh Geymeier in Bänz Oester's group Rainmakers ( Playing at the Bird's Eye , Unit 2014, Ukuzinikela , Enja 2016). Tom Lord lists him in the field of jazz between 2000 and 2012 in six recording sessions.
