Moses Khumalo

Moses Khumalo (* the thirtieth January 1979 in Meadowlands , Soweto , † 4. September 2006 in Honeydew , Johannesburg ) was a South African jazz - saxophonist .

Moses Khumalo attended Thobeka Primary School, from 1993 the Pace Community College and studied piano and saxophone at Manu Technical College from 1994 to 1998 . He completed his studies with a diploma in music theory, music history and saxophone and piano playing. He began his professional music career in 1995 at the Grahamstown Festival as a member of the Soweto Youth Jazz Band , which was led by Mokale Koapeng and then performed in London and West Africa. After his return he played for three years in the band of the pianist Moses Molelekwa . In addition, he stepped u. a. with Hugh Masekela , Sibongile Khumalo , Themba Mkhize and Paul Hanmer . In the early 2000s he played with his band project Moses Khumalo and Friends in the clubs of Johannesburg. His debut album Mntungwa was released on the Sheer Sound label in 2002 and won a South African Music Award for Best Newcomer Album . In 2005 his second album Ibuyile was released . Khumalo was found hanged in his home in Johannesburg in early September 2006 just before he had another studio appointment with the Young Lions .
