Ganesh Geymeier (* 1984 ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , also soprano saxophone ) with Indian roots.

Live and act

Geymeier, who lives in Vevey and turned to the saxophone at the age of 13, graduated from the Conservatoire de musique de Genève in 2009 . He is now considered one of the most popular Swiss saxophonists of the young generation. With the accordionist Noémie Cotton and the drummer Fred Bürki, he has been part of the collective Elderflower Project since 2010 . He recorded Friends with François Lindemann in 2011 .

From 2012 to 2016 he was one of the Rainmakers around Bänz Oester , with whom he released two albums and gave concerts at the Willisau Jazz Festival and Jazzahead . Since 2014 he and Christophe Calpini have formed the duo Bad Resolution , which released the album Forgotten Language in 2015 . With the pianist Marc Méan and the drummer Maxence Sibille he plays improvisational music in the Trio Thatpork , which released two albums. He performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival , Cully Jazz Festival and Jazz à Juan , among others . At the Jazzonze 2018 festival in Lausanne he recorded the album Kailasha (2020) with six strings, keyboardist Fabien Iannone and drummer Lionel Friedli . He also worked with musicians such as Matthieu Michel , Emil Spanyi , Marcel Papaux , Malcolm Braff , François Jeanneau , Glenn Ferris , Joe Quitzke and Sylvia Versini ( With Mary Lou in My Heart , 2011).

Geymeier was awarded a Swiss music prize by the Federal Office of Culture in 2018 .
