Donat Fisch (born March 16, 1956 in Bern ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( alto and tenor saxophone , composition ).

Live and act

Fisch grew up in a parental home interested in art and initially wanted to become a natural scientist. Encouraged by friends and attending rock concerts, he began to play the guitar on a self-taught basis . In 1978 he discovered jazz and began taking guitar lessons at the Swiss Jazz School . Under the influence of " A Love Supreme " by Coltrane , he switched to the saxophone while studying biology , which he completed in 1983 with a subject in behavioral research . In 1986 he graduated from the Swiss Jazz School with Andy Scherrer and Sal Nistico .

At first he played straight ahead jazz ; then he founded the band Fisch in a trio with bassist Thomas Dürst and Norbert Pfammatter , who toured with Adrian Mears in 1993 , with Hans Koch in 1994 and later with Peter Schärli . Increasingly he began to be interested in improvised and conceptual music; he worked in the Klangarche group with trombonist Christoph Schweizer and two percussionists (Norbert Pfammatter and Christian Wolfarth ). In 1997 he founded the Trio Brilliant Corners with Thomas Dürst and Samuel Rohrer , which was later strengthened by Philipp Schaufelberger . Since 1998 he has performed in a duo with Christian Wolfarth, who have so far released three albums. Andy Scherrer has been part of his quartet since 2008, which arose from the long-lived fish in the trio . As a sideman he was active in the bands of the trumpeters Peter Schärli and Martin Dahanukar as well as in Dominic Eglis Plurism and the formation Der große Bär .
