Johann Georg Karl Leopold Alwin Freiherr von Puttkamer (born October 11, 1811 in Jassen , † December 16, 1885 in Koblenz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Alwin was a member of the Pomeranian barons von Puttkamer from the house of Wollin . His parents were the heir to Jassen and Chosnitz Wilhelm von Puttkamer (1782–1849) and Johanna, née von Zitzewitz (1784–1859). His brothers Konstantin von Puttkamer (1807–1899) and Heinrich von Puttkamer (1818–1886) also became Prussian generals.

He married Julie d'Olimart (1818–1898) in Luxembourg in 1843 . From the marriage resulted:

Career

Puttkamer began his career in the Prussian army in 1823 as a cadet in Kulm , went to Berlin as a cadet in 1826 and was promoted to porter ensign in the 39th Infantry Regiment in 1830 .
