Baron Georg Heinrich Carl von Puttkamer (born September 16, 1818 in Jassen , † June 27, 1886 in Kamissow ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He came from the Puttkamer noble family in Rear Pomerania and was the sixth son of the farmer Wilhelm Freiherr von Puttkamer zu Jassen (born March 11, 1782 in Wollin ; † September 2, 1849 in Stolp ) and his wife Johanna, born von Zitzewitz (born January 29, 1784 in Notzkow ; † January 28, 1859 in Stettin ). His brothers Konstantin von Puttkamer (1807–1899) and Alwin von Puttkamer (1811–1885) became Prussian major general.

Military career

Puttkamer grew up under the modest rural conditions that his parents' house on the Jassen estate could offer him. Like many of his ancestors, he decided to pursue an officer career in the Prussian Army . Heinrich received the highest commendation as a cadet . Puttkamer was transferred to the Guards Artillery Brigade as Second Lieutenant on August 18, 1836 . He graduated from the United Artillery and Engineering School in 1837/38 and was sent to the General War School for three years for further training in 1841 . King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him a sword of honor for his extraordinary achievements there . After the Prussian royal family had noticed him positively, he was appointed military adjutant to the royal princes ; In the German-Danish War Puttkamer was Prince Carl's adjutant and participated in the battle near Rackebüll and the assault on the Düppeler Schanzen .

On April 18, 1865, Puttkamer was appointed commander of Field Artillery Regiment No. 2 and promoted to colonel on June 18, 1865 . During the German War in 1866 he was in command of the reserve artillery of the II Army Corps and fought near Gitschin and Königgrätz . In mid-January 1868 he was appointed commander of the 9th Artillery Brigade and on June 18, 1869 he was promoted to major general . Puttkamer led his brigade in the 1870/71 war against France in the battles near Vionville , Gravelotte , Noisseville , Orléans , Le Mans and a number of skirmishes. In addition to both classes of the Iron Cross , Puttkamer received the Order Pour le Mérite , the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the Ludewig Order , and the Hessian and Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross for his achievements .

After the Peace of Frankfurt he was promoted to inspector of the 4th Artillery Inspection in March 1872 and was promoted to lieutenant general on September 2, 1873. As such, he was inspector of the 2nd foot artillery inspection from June 9, 1874. On August 6, 1877, Puttkamer was put up for disposal with a pension and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with oak leaves and swords on the ring .

He was a legal knight of the Order of St. John . After his departure, Puttkamer moved to Berlin .

Heinrich Freiherr von Puttkamer was the driving force behind the founding of the family v. Family cooperative founded on October 3, 1860 in Köslin . Puttkamer and was also its chairman from 1874 until his death in 1886.

As a permanent contact person of the royal Prussian house, he was present at the death of Friedrich Wilhelm IV and at the coronation of Wilhelm I in Königsberg .

He had married Luise Wall (1825-1903) on May 17, 1845 in Berlin. The marriage resulted in two sons, Heinrich (1846–1914), Prussian major general, and Karl Georg Ludwig (* 1847), former Prussian Rittmeister. D. and district administrator. He also had two daughters:
