Zitzewitz
Zitzewitz is the name of an old aristocratic family from the East of Pomerania of the Keuteke tribe , whose line of tribe was first documented in 1168 with the castellan of Demmin Dirsiko .
history
For a long time, the Zitzewitz, along with the Puttkamer and Stojentin , were among the most important families in Stolp , where they owned extensive property.
Early representatives
In a document from 1345, Martinus de Sitsovits is named as the first member of the family after the Zitzewitz estate of the same name, located between Stolp (now Polish Słupsk) and Schlawe (now Polish Sławno) in Western Pomerania . He had previously appeared as Martin Keuteke de Sanow . The Kützeke (Cusseke, Koske) are mentioned in 1393 with Laurenz and Dereke Koske as gentlemen on Kunsow , which then belonged to Peter von Zitzewitz († 1410). In 1393 Laurenz Koske von Culsow was named and in 1397 a Derseke Cusseke von Culsow . In 1401 Jarislaw , Lorenz and Bogislaus Kulyke sold the village of Zu der Sawerze ( Sageritz ).
Lines
Around 1400 three large, heavily branched lines were formed with the houses Zitzewitz , Muttrin and Varzin , the latter of which went out in 1781.
Peter von Zitzewitz was the owner of Zitzewitz and Kussow when he died in 1410 . Georg von Zitzewitz, born in 1585, was the founder of the second Zitzewitz-Zezenower branch. After his death, Zitzewitz was divided into goods A and B, but remained in the family's possession until 1945.
Jarislaw von Zitzewitz , born around 1360, is named as the first man on Muttrin, who also owned numerous other estates in the Stolper Land, including Budow . He and Albert von Puttkamer fell in 1410 in a border dispute with the knights of the Teutonic Order . The Muttrin family provided Jacob von Zitzewitz (around 1507–1572), Chancellor of Pommern-Wolgast, an important statesman in the Reformation era .
Klaus von Zitzewitz , born around 1460 in Muttrin, is regarded as the progenitor of the second Budow branch, which later divided the Budow estate into parts A and B.
Awards and ranks
On the occasion of the celebration of the 600 years of ownership of the family estates in the Stolpe and Wipper river basin , the noble family Zitzewitz was granted the right to present the Prussian manor house by Wilhelm II on October 16, 1900 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe .
The Zitzewitz zu Zitzewitz received in 1909 with Wilhelm von Zitzewitz (1838-1925) the Prussian count in the primogeniture .
Own
In the course of time the family acquired a stately property and still owned over 30,000 hectares at the beginning of the 20th century.
The headquarters in Zitzewitz remained in the family's possession from 1345 to 1945, as did Muttrin , Budow and Klein Gansen from 1360 onwards . From that time on, Kottow was a subsidiary property, first to Budow, then to Muttrin. The neighboring Goschen (now Goszczyno ) and Groß Gansen had been owned by the Zitzewitz since before 1410, and Groß Gansen was later divided into two farms. In 1480 Beßwitz is referred to as an "ancient fiefdom " of the family, other old fiefs were Krien and from 1440 Dumröse , they also remained in the family until 1945.
Varzin , neighboring Beßwitz , was first mentioned in the hands of the family in 1485 and stayed with them, together with Jannewitz , until 1692.
Notzkow was in the family from 1656 to around 1800 and returned to them again from 1908 to 1945.
In 1796 Zezenow and Dargeröse came into the family as a marriage property and remained in their possession until 1945.
Count Wilhelm von Zitzewitz (1838–1925) founded the Fideikommiss Zitzewitz - Gatz - Nitzlin in 1901 and was heir to Zezenow . He expanded his property very considerably by Prebendow, Dargeröse , Schlackow , Krolow , Marsow , Görshagen , Vietzke , Klein Machmin , Schönwalde, Klein-Lüblow, Karlswalde and Pottack. His 17 aristocratic estates totaled 11,500 hectares. His son Heinrich built a new castle in Zitzewitz and laid out a park.
Bornzin was acquired in 1841 and remained in the family until the expropriation in 1945.

coat of arms
The family coat of arms is split from black and silver with a gold-reinforced double -headed eagle in a confused color. There are seven alternating black and silver ostrich feathers on the helmet with its black and silver helmet cover . Historically, there are also variants with the opposite color sequence.
The coat of arms of the von Zitzewitz family, which is not always clearly handed down on old seals, was sometimes shown in the third line as a half eagle on the right and half a raven on the left. They have the double-headed eagle in the family coat of arms in common with the von Mitzlaff neighbors that have been documented since 1389 , with whom they are one tribe.
