Heinrich Eugen von Zitzewitz

Heinrich Eugen von Zitzewitz (* 1925 in Notzkow , Schlawe district ; † June 1, 1998 in Braunschweig ) was a German painter , graphic artist , author and sculptor . He has written newspaper articles and lectures on art history topics, forewords to exhibition catalogs and art educational writings as well as poems and literary texts.

Life

He came from the Pomeranian aristocratic family Zitzewitz and was born on his parents' estate Notzkow in Western Pomerania . From 1948 to 1949 he trained as an actor and director at the Hebbel Theater School in Berlin. In 1950 he began studying sculpture and painting at the Berlin University of Fine Arts , which he graduated as a master student in 1955 . He then worked as a painter, graphic artist, sculptor and author. From 1956 to 1988 he taught at the Martino-Katharineum Braunschweig . From 1969 to 1975 he was also managing director of the Association of Visual Artists in Braunschweig and from 1982 to 1988 its chairman. With Johann-Dietrich Bödeker, he edited the satirical magazine Schmähwinkel from 1978 to 1983 . For the Braunschweiger Zeitung he wrote the column “Till geht durch die Stadt” (meaning Till Eulenspiegel ), which was published with his drawings and in which he satirically targeting political and administrative decisions and grievances in the city.

In 2010 his daughter Lisaweta von Zitzewitz published her father's memoirs under the title Meister Rose and other stories .

Zitzewitz exhibited his works at home and abroad, including in the National Gallery in Berlin and in the German Museum for Caricature and the Art of Drawings Wilhelm Busch in Hanover. Some of his works are in the possession of museums. He equipped the Jan Bosco Church in Sycewice (Zitzewitz) with a six-part choir, epitaph and pulpit.
