Michael von Zitzewitz

Michael von Zitzewitz (born March 10, 1945 in Aalen ) was Chairman of the Management Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH from January 1, 1999 until he retired on March 31, 2010 . His successor is Wolfgang Marzin .

Von Zitzewitz studied economics in Hamburg and Munich. He passed the tax advisor exam . He began his professional career in 1972 with the auditing and tax consultancy firm Industrietreuhand in Mannheim and two years later with W. Schlage in Hamburg. In 1976, von Zitzewitz moved to Lehndorff Vermögensverwaltung GmbH in Hamburg, where he was appointed deputy managing director with responsibility for business administration, accounting and sales in this real estate company, which mainly invests in real estate in Canada and the USA. In 1983 he took over the sales of all real estate investment products as deputy director at Deutsche Bank . He has become the managing director and chairman of various real estate companies in Germany as well as in the USA and Japan. From 1992 to 1998 von Zitzewitz was managing director of Commerz Grundbesitz Investmentgesellschaft mbH in Wiesbaden.

At Messe Frankfurt, his focus right from the start was on developing international business and, at the same time, on strengthening the home location of Frankfurt am Main . In addition to strengthening the leading trade fairs in Frankfurt, one of his goals is to further develop the exhibition grounds and trade fair services. Under his aegis, Hall 3 (2001), the Forum (2001), the Dependance (2005), the Cargo Center (2007) and, most recently, Hall 11 with the portal house (2009). From an urban planning perspective, the last two construction projects on the Frankfurt exhibition grounds in particular were an initiative project for the overall development and design of the adjacent Europaviertel within Albert Speer's master plan .

Michael von Zitzewitz was President of the European Major Exhibition Centers Association from 2002 to 2004 . Since 2005 he has been chairman of the Society for Voluntary Control of Fair and Exhibition Statistics . Since December 2007 he has been a board member of the German Chamber of Commerce in Austria . In addition, Michael von Zitzewitz is Honorary Consul of Bangladesh for the State of Hesse .
