Friedrich von Zitzewitz (1887–1940)

Friedrich von Zitzewitz (born September 11, 1887 in Berlin , † December 25, 1940 in Köslin ) was a German administrative officer. From 1925 to 1938 he was district administrator for the Schlawe district .

Life

He was born as a member of the Pomeranian noble family Zitzewitz in Berlin , where his father, Lieutenant Colonel Coelestin von Zitzewitz, served as an imperial wing adjutant . His mother Elise nee Koebel has family roots in England. His sister was the artist and portrait painter Augusta von Zitzewitz . In Berlin he attended the Joachimsthaler Gymnasium up to the Abitur. He then joined the Imperial Navy as a midshipman in 1907 , but had to leave the service after a serious accident.

Zitzewitz studied law at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin and at the University of Leipzig and received his doctorate at the Georg-August University of Göttingen to Dr. jur. He then embarked on an administrative career. After stints in Marburg and Kassel , he became a councilor in Opole in 1912 . During the First World War he worked as a representative of the district administrator in the Kassel and Eupen districts . In 1920 he came to the Prussian Ministry of Commerce .

From 1925 to 1938 Zitzewitz was district administrator of the Schlawe district in Pomerania . In his office he shaped the circle in the inter-war period. During his term of office, among other things, the introduction of the vocational school system and kindergartens , the conversion of the Schlawer Kreisbahn from narrow to standard gauge and the expansion of the district home museum under the museum director Karl Rosenow .

Zitzewitz left his office in Schlawe in 1938 to become Vice President of the Government District of Köslin . He died here in 1940.

family

Friedrich von Zitzewitz was married to Harriet von Chelius (* 1891; † 1983), daughter of the general and composer Oskar von Chelius . The eldest son became a pastor, two sons died as officers in World War II .
