Tommy Meier (* 1959 ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , bass clarinet , soprano saxophone , zurna , balaphone ) and composer .

Meier first played punk jazz with Brom and rock with Comebuckley since 1979 . This productive attempt at musical exchange between different cultures was continued with Kadash's “Oriental Jazz” ; also with the project Kadash & The Nile Troup, a band with seven Swiss and seven Egyptian musicians, the famous Musicans of the Nile; Meier undertook several long tours with them in Europe. He also played in the Co Streiff sextet , Radio Osaka and Broken Symmetry . He worked with Hans Koch , Daniel Ott ( Expo 2000 ) and Alan Silva (Uncool Festival). In 1999/2000 he and his partner Co Streiff led the large formation WORCH of the Bern workshop for improvised music. In 2004 he founded his large formation ROOT DOWN , which plays music by Fela Kuti and Chris McGregor in addition to original compositions .
