Luca Sisera (* 1975 in Chur ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( double bass , composition ).

Live and act

Sisera, whose father is from Italy and is an amateur musician, had piano lessons as a child; he then attended the music school in Chur and initially played the electric bass in rock bands. From hip-hop he finally came to jazz and switched to the double bass . Between 1999 and 2004 he studied electric bass and double bass (courses in performance jazz and music education) with Heiri Känzig at the Lucerne School of Music . From the 2000s Sisera worked in the Swiss jazz scene a. a. with Andi Schnoz , Jonas Knecht , Michael Jaeger , Norbert Pfammatter , Dave Gisler ,Christoph Baumann , Urs Leimgruber and Marcel Lüscher . In the following years he also played in the formations Michael Jaeger Kerouac (with Michael Jaeger, Vincent Membrez, Norbert Pfammatter), with H2S2 (with Alex Hendriksen , Franz Hellmüller, Michael Stulz ), Kapelle Kessler (among others with Manuel Mengis , Tobias Schramm , Valentin Kessler ), riss (with Christoph Irniger , Michael Stulz, Stefan Rusconi ), Radar Suzuki (with Hellmüller, Carles Peris , Dario Sisera ), Tommy Meier Root Down Orchestra and the Yves Theiler Trio ( Dance in a Triangle , 2016).

In a duo with guitarist Franz Hellmüller , Sisera recorded the album Home (Altrisuoni) in 2005 ; this resulted in a trio with Tony Renold . In 2013 he founded his group Luca Sisera Roofer , which released the album Prospect ( Leo Records ) in 2015 (with Silvio Cadotsch (trombone), Michael Jaeger (reeds), Yves Theiler (piano), Michi Stulz (drums) and as a guest Isa Wiss ( Singing)); In his review of the album in All About Jazz, Glenn Astarita highlighted the ensemble's ability to “elegantly process conventional modern jazz into avant-garde improvisations.” With this group, further albums followed in 2017 and 2019.

In the field of jazz he was involved in 26 recording sessions between 2001 and 2017. Luca Sisera teaches at the Chur Music School; he currently lives in Lucerne and Berlin.

Awards

In the course of his career, Sisera received recognition prizes from the Max Koch Cultural Foundation and the Casal Bernhard Foundation, as well as the 2005 Culture Promotion Prize of the Canton of Graubünden. In 2009 he received a grant from the City of Chur for a six-month studio stay in Cairo. In 2012 he was awarded the work grant and the city of Chur's recognition award. In 2013 he received the work grant from the Canton of Graubünden. As part of the priority jazz funding from Pro Helvetia, he and his band Roofer were supported from 2017 to 2019.
