Hilaria Kramer

Hilaria Kramer (born June 1, 1967 in Frauenfeld ) is a Swiss musician (trumpet, vocals, composition) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Kramer started playing the trumpet when he was ten. From 1983 she attended the vocational school department of the St. Gallen Jazz School, where she was taught by Benny Bailey and Art Lande . She then worked mainly in Italy with the quintet by Claudio Fasoli , with Giannantonio de Vincenzo and with Gianluigi Trovesi . She played with musicians such as Steve Lacy , Enrico Rava , Joe Henderson , Bob Mover , Sal Nistico , Chet Baker and Sangoma Everett . In 1988 Kramer recorded her first album with her own quartet, which was released in spring 1989 (Hilaria Kramer Quartet, Unit Records). In 1989 she brought Mathias Rüegg to the Vienna Art Orchestra for the Fe & Males project ; In 1990 she selected SRG for the jazz orchestra of the European Broadcasting Union . In 1991 she accompanied singers like Nina Simone and Carmen McRae in the television program Ladies in Jazz (on Rai Uno ) . In the next few years she played with Uli Scherer in Vienna, recorded sound carriers with Luca Flores, Marilyn Mazur and David Murray and toured Europe. Their discography includes 18 albums, recorded in different line-ups and with different formations.

In addition to acoustic jazz, Kramer is also interested in electronic music and multimedia. She founded formations such as Half Ciber and Zappatronix . She plays in the Ratrabra quartet with Co Streiff , Béatrice Graf and Karoline Höfler .

She was a lecturer for the women's organization Framu in Switzerland and Germany, and also worked as a music teacher in Tuscany . From 2005 to 2010 she was a board member of the Swiss Music Syndicate SMS, the professional association of the jazz and improvisation scene in Switzerland. She was also the president of the Ticino Associazione Musica Improvvisata Ticino until 2014 .

Prizes and awards

In 2014, Kramer was awarded the Jazz Prize of the Suisa Foundation for her achievements as a musician, composer and band leader and also for her contributions to Swiss jazz at an institutional level.
