Paulo Sérgio Santos

Paulo Sérgio Cunha dos Santos is a Brazilian clarinetist who is just as active in the field of jazz as he is in Brazilian pop music, choro and classical music.

Santos studied at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro with José Botelho and Jayoleno dos Santos . From 1977 to 1995 he was principal clarinetist in the orchestra of the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro. He has also worked as a soloist with other Brazilian symphony orchestras and is a member of the World Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Lorin Maazel . At the Acanthes contest for contemporary music in France in 1987, he won an honorable mention.

Santos is also a member of the Quinteto Villa-Lobos , which is dedicated to contemporary Brazilian music. With Maurício Carrilho and Pedro Amorim he forms the O Trio, which is in the tradition of the choro .
