The Donauwarte stands on the 450 meter high Braunsdorfer Berg in the Egelsee district in the statutory city of Krems an der Donau in Lower Austria . The lookout point is located on the Mariazellerweg in Lower Austria and on the Großer Tullnerfelder Rundwanderweg and is a listed building ( entry ).
view
The tower offers a view over the Danube valley into the Tullner basin . The town of Krems spreads out at the foot of the upstream vineyards , and on the other side of the Danube is the Göttweig Abbey . The control room is accessible all year round for a small entrance fee.
history
The control room was built by the Austrian Tourist Club , Section Krems-Und-Stein , and inaugurated on July 6, 1884. Despite several renovations, the control room had to be closed in the mid-1980s because it was dilapidated. In 1989 a general renovation was initiated by the Austrian Tourist Club, which was carried out by the Higher Technical College in Krems. The ceremonial reopening took place on October 15, 1989. The building was placed under monument protection.
