The Mariazeller Ways (also pilgrim paths to Mariazell ) are a star-shaped network of long-distance hiking trails that connect the eastern federal states of Austria with the pilgrimage site of Mariazell. Both the individual branches and the entire system are referred to as the Austrian long-distance hiking trail 06 .

Starting points are Klagenfurt , Eibiswald , Eisenstadt , Vienna , the Nebelstein , the Pöstlingberg and Salzburg . All paths end in Mariazell, with the exception of the Kärntner Weg - this ends in Eibiswald, where the Styrian Path connects.

A walking time between five days (from Vienna) and two and a half weeks (from Klagenfurt) must be estimated for the hike through the individual branches of different lengths.

Course of the individual paths

The Kärntner Mariazellerweg begins in Klagenfurt's Annabichl district and leads via Maria Saal to the Magdalensberg . Via Christofberg you get to Brückl , from where you ascend to Diex on the southern foothills of the Saualpe . The pilgrims come via Griffen and Sankt Paul in Lavanttal to Lavamünd and finally up to Soboth, which is already in Styria . From Eibiswald you continue hiking on the Styrian branch.

From Eibiswald on the Styrian Mariazellerweg you first reach Schwanberg and then via the Wolfgangikirche after Deutschlandsberg . The path leads to Stainz via Bad Gams and the Stainzer Warte , then you pass the towns of Mooskirchen and Söding , and via the Buchkogel you arrive in Graz-Eggenberg . On the other side of the Styrian capital, the markings are continued at Hilnteich , and the Schöckl is climbed via Maria Trost and St. Radegund . It goes down to Passail to the Sommeralm . The Straßegg and Auf der Schanz passes lead to the Stanglalpe . After crossing the Mürztals the long road to begin Rotsohlalm under the Hohe Veitsch . The path continues to Niederalpl , from where Mariazell is reached after another half-day hike .

The Burgenland Mariazellerweg begins in Eisenstadt , from where you hike across meadows to Forchtenstein Castle . You reach Pitten via the highest point of the Rosaliengebirge , through the Johannesbachklamm Puchberg am Schneeberg . In Rodaun (or alternatively in Perchtoldsdorf or Mödling ) the Viennese Mariazellerweg (also Viennese pilgrimage route ) starts . Hiking through the Vienna Woods leads to the Heiligenkreuz Abbey and via Mayerling to Hafnerberg and Klein-Mariazell . The ascent to the Enzianhütte on the Kieneck begins in Kaumberg , from where the hike continues to the Unterberg . Now over Rohr im Gebirge to the Kalten Kuchl and on to St. Aegyd am Neuwalde . From Kernhofer Gschaid the path leads over the Krumbachsattel into the valley of the Walster , from where there are two routes to the center of Mariazell available over the last few kilometers.

The first section of the Mariazellerweg in Lower Austria leads eastwards from Nebelstein via Rosenau Castle to Zwettl . Following the Kamptal , you walk past the Ottenstein reservoir to Rosenburg , where the path turns south. You reach Stein an der Donau , translate it and cross the Dunkelsteinerwald to get to St. Pölten . From Wilhelmsburg you climb to the Kaiserkogelhütte and cross the Hohenstein to Türnitz . There are two options for the last stage to Mariazell, one runs over the Tirolerkogel , the other near the valley through the village of Ulreichsberg .

From the Pöstlingbergkirche , the Upper Austrian Mariazellerweg first crosses the inner city of Linz to lead the pilgrims to Steyr via St. Florian Monastery. Although these run on the same route in some places, they are not considered part of the Austrian long-distance hiking trail 06.
