The Roman Catholic Wolfgangikirche Hollenegg stands on a hill in Kruckenberg in the cadastral community of Neuberg bei Hollenegg in the market town of Schwanberg in the district of Deutschlandsberg in Styria . The branch church consecrated to St. Wolfgang belongs to the dean's office in Deutschlandsberg in the diocese of Graz-Seckau . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

The church can be reached from the state road from Deutschlandsberg to Trahütten (Weinebenstraße) or from Hollenegg via a narrow, winding and steep road.

history

The Gothic mountain church with a wide view to the north, east and south was built in 1494. The choir of the church has been preserved; today's western front was created with the walling up of the façade arch .

architecture

The church is the remainder of a larger Gothic complex. Only the three-bay choir is preserved, the Gothic windows have been shortened. A shoulder arched sacristy door has been preserved. The three-bay choir with a three-eighth closure shows stepped buttresses on the outside. The sacristy portal has a shoulder arch. The western ridge turret wears an onion helmet.

The interior of the church had a Gothic ribbed vault, the ribs of which were subsequently chipped off. In the west yoke of the choir, a baroque gallery was built on two columns - slightly protruding in the middle.

Furnishing

The high altar from the second quarter of the 17th century shows the high altar image of St. Wolfgang from 1711 with four other saints and the Mother of God. The crest cartouche re. 1675 was probably added later. There are two large turned chandeliers and a communion grille from the 18th century.

The organ was built around 1780.

As a substitute for an image of St. Urban , which was lost in the 1970s, the church received a painting Anna teaches Maria as a gift from the Liechtenstein family, who lived in Hollenegg Castle , in 2015 as part of a renovation of its interior .

The large linden tree in front of the church had to be removed in 2016 due to old age, it had become hollow and rotten and was a danger for the church and its visitors. Instead, a young linden tree was planted, the size of the linden tree to the northeast.

The entrance area was redesigned in 2017 and inaugurated on July 8, 2018 at the parish fair. The result was a canopy with seating and a table that was slightly removed from it. A glass door provides a view of the church from Easter to the end of October. The designs for these works come from the architect Markus Jeschaunig from Graz.
