The church was built in 1767–1769 by master builder Anton Liebhart from Deutschlandsberg and consecrated in 1770. It has been a parish church from 1892, and from 1788 it was entitled to exercise parish rights in full as the “Stations-Caplanei” of the Schwanberg parish. In their vaults there was Rococo painting, which was painted over in 1892. In 1963 the painting was restored. The baroque high altar dates from the first half of the 18th century, the pulpit from the construction period. The holy water font names the founder of the church in the inscription "Jakob Lenzenbauer 1769".

Note: The church building is located on a plot of EZ 80 KG 61015 Gressenberg. To the north of the church on the road to Stullnegg are the remains of a lime kiln, the construction of which dates back to the time the church was built and which was used as a garbage dump after it was abandoned. Investigations in 2000 revealed finds such as metal bowls and porcelain objects up to around 1950.

Hollenegg 1 KG

The castle was the ancestral seat of the family mentioned in 1163, which died out in 1654. The oldest components are dated to the 14th century, it is assumed that the move from the Altburg Hollenegg in the north of the valley to the new location took place at that time. The appearance of the medieval castle is no longer recognizable due to later alterations; visible fortifications (cannon round towers) date from the 16th century. The castle has two inner courtyards, in the east wing with arcades that are modeled on the Graz country house. The interior is from the 18th and 19th centuries, largely from the Limberg and Riegersburg palaces.

Note: The building is privately owned by a branch of the Liechtenstein family, it is only accessible during guided tours or as part of church services in the church inside and is located on property owned by EZ 102 KG 61024 Hollenegg.

Alt-Hollenegg tower castle Upload file Tower Castle Alt-Hollenegg ObjectID

Hollenegg
location
KG: Hollenegg
The site is located on the property north of the castle in impassable terrain. It is overgrown with trees and bushes. The Hollenecker family is mentioned in a document in the 12th century, and it is assumed that they owned the Altburg Hollenegg at this location. Since the oldest parts of Hollenegg Castle are dated to the 14th century, it is assumed that the Altburg was abandoned at that time. In contrast to the development principle of medieval castle sites, according to which the oldest castle was at its highest and the younger structures are always built more towards the valley, it is the other way around with the Hollenegg castles: It is assumed that the Altburg valley was initially due to its swampy and water-rich location was better usable for defense. Some ditches and hills can still be seen in the remains, details are not visible, there are no more walls. Without an expert guide, it is impossible to distinguish whether uneven ground is due to the old system, to later human interventions (e.g. the creation of sunken paths, search trenches from excavations, stone robbery, robbery excavations, etc.) or to natural developments (erosion). Some changes may also be due to the fact that the hill of the tower castle was used as a lookout point.

Note: The site is on a property owned by EZ 102 KG 61024 Hollenegg. Another tower castle ( see there ) was located further northwest of the castle on Neuberg, its location is also listed.

KG: Neuberg
It is the archaeological site of a fortification from the Middle Ages. The system on the upper mountain slope in the north-west of Hollenegg can only be recognized in nature by the uneven ground formed by the former castle hill, its rampart, moat and berms . Details are not visible, there are no more walls. Whether irregularities on the earth's surface are due to the old system, to later human interventions (e.g. the creation of sunken paths, ditches from previous excavations or to robbery graves) or to natural developments (erosion) cannot be distinguished without expert guidance. To the north of the complex lies a system of sunken paths that are interpreted as paths to the St. Wolfgang church. The castle site is assumed to be a security for these paths.

Note: The site is on a property owned by EZ 110 KG 61043 Neuberg. Another, also listed tower castle ( see there ) was located further south-east near Hollenegg Castle.

The church belongs to one of the original parishes of the area, it is mentioned as a parish church as early as 1244. The core of the Romanesque complex from the 13th century has been preserved; it was extended in the late Gothic style. At the end of the 15th century, the church received a square tower at the choir, to which a one-bay Gothic choir was added. This choir was bricked up in 1896 and turned into a sacristy. The complex has been heavily renewed several times; the north chapel from the 14th century and other details (keystone with the Spangsteiner coat of arms) have been preserved. A St. Christopher fresco on the north side from around 1510/20 has been whitewashed. The interior of the church is neo-Gothic from the period 1896 to 1898. There are tombstones from the 16th to the 19th century on the church.

fortified settlement "Altburg" Upload file fortified settlement "Altburg"
ObjectID:  3530

Location
KG: Schwanberg
The castle was built around 1200 and belonged to a fiefdom of the Brixen bishops. From the 13th to the 15th century it was owned by the Pettauer. Their stones were used to rebuild Schwanberg Castle, so that there are no easily recognizable remains of the original complex. In the area, however, trenches and platforms can still be seen, which show that the complex reached from the Josefikirche via today's castle to Gressenbergerstraße, thus having a circumference of around one kilometer. The area of the Altburg is also known as the "dance floor" or "dance floor" (another castle site with this name is located at the Deutschlandsberg castle. The name indicates a flat surface). The remains of a cannon tower (cannon roundel) from the 15th century have been found in this area. The area of the castle was further investigated in several excavation campaigns, the course of some walls was determined and a number of ceramic finds from the 10th to 15th centuries were made. There is also evidence of finds from the younger Iron Age and the late Roman Empire. In 2009, the remains of a cistern with a diameter of about 13 meters were found. In 2011, large parts of the north wall of the Altburg and other buildings that could belong to a forge that was discovered in 2008 were uncovered. In addition, objects from the 8th and 9th centuries were found in 2011. Excavations confirmed a larger fortress.
