Schwanberg Monastery Church
The Roman Catholic monastery church Schwanberg stands with the gable front in the south end of the main square in the market town of Bad Schwanberg in the district of Deutschlandsberg in Styria . The church is a listed building .
history
The monastery church, built according to the plans of the Capuchin Church in Graz, was consecrated in 1714. Due to the closure and sale of the Capuchin monastery, the church is owned by Heilmoorbad Schwanberg . The nave and choir with furnishings have been restored in recent years. The restoration of the Loreto Chapel is in progress. Today the church is mainly used for weekday masses and funeral services.
architecture
The wide nave and the drawn-in choir with a straight end have lancet barrel vaults. On the east side of the nave to the inner courtyard of the monastery there is a side chapel as a Loreto chapel. The entrance hall to the monastery on the mountain side on the choir head carries the roof turret to the monastery church.
The staircase from the main square to the main portal of the monastery church is roofed with a barrel vault and the front to the main square is the war memorial.
Furnishing
The high altar and the two side altars as well as the altar of the side chapel are from the construction period. The high altar picture ( guardian angel ) with saints and the coronation of Mary was painted by Johannes Vitus Hauckh (1709). It was restored in 1952. Hauckh also made the altarpiece with St. Valentin from 1712 on the altar of the side chapel. In the Loreto Chapel there is an altar with a classicist column structure with two good white statues of Saints Joachim and Anna, which were transferred here from the Capuchin Church in Leibnitz. Seven pictures from 1700 show scenes from the life of Mary.
