history

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1498. At that time it was a branch church of the Schwanberg parish church . The church tower was damaged by a storm in 1640, raised in 1779 and shortened again in 1842. In 1672 renovations took place. In 1892 it was elevated to a parish church, before that, as a subsidiary church (“Lokal-Curatie St. Anna in Fresen”) of the then dean's office Schwanberg, it had been entitled to exercise parish rights in full since 1788. The interior was renovated in 1953.

description

View of the open chapel and the church tower

The church tower, which is essentially Gothic, is located north of the west yoke and has a flat tented roof . It was increased in 1779 and shortened again in 1842. There are two pillars on its north side. To the west of the tower is an open chapel built on round pillars . In it is a baroque oval fresco from the first half of the 18th century, which shows St. Anne . There are buttresses on the outside of the choir and on the south side of the nave. In the west is the ogival entrance portal. South of the portal is an outer pulpit dated 1610 with a coat of arms, probably that of the Baumber.

The predominantly Gothic hall church has a three-bay nave that merges seamlessly into the choir with a five- eighth end. The nave is of one with keystones provided ribbed vault spans that on different length services rests. The vault ribs in the western yoke are chipped off. Like the pulpit, the wooden, baroque gallery in the western part of the church dates from the first half of the 18th century. The Gothic windows have been given a baroque style.

In the central niche of the high altar donated by Raimund Graf Saurau in 1778 are statues of Saints Anna, John the Baptist and Mary from the third quarter of the 17th century. The Antonius Eremita and Alexius Altars were erected in the third quarter of the 17th century and have newer altarpieces. The Joachim altar dates from the first quarter of the 18th century. In a wall niche there is a statue of Our Lady on a rococo throne from the third quarter of the 18th century and two angel figures from around 1700. A metal, six-armed chandelier was made in 1731 by Emperor Charles VI. donated. On the inner wall of the choir and nave there is a Gothic fresco with a border from around 1420, which was uncovered and restored in 1955 and shows the three wise men.
