Urban by Langres
Saint Urban of Langres (* in Unter-Colmier; † (probably) January 23, 375 ) was bishop of Langres and Autun in the 4th century .
According to legend, he hid himself from his persecutors behind a vine. In Christian iconography he is therefore often depicted with a cluster of grapes or a whole vine in his hand. For the same reason, he is also considered the patron saint of winemakers , although this function is often wrongly to the saints, and Pope Urban I. is transmitted, whose memorial on May 25, the Urbanstag is.
Urban von Langres is also considered the patron saint of the cities of Langres and Dijon .
His feast day is celebrated differently: originally on the presumed death date, January 23, later in Langres on April 2 , officially on April 3 . In many wine-growing regions , a procession is held on this day of remembrance.
