Johannes Heinrich Hofmann (born December 16, 1950 in Mainburg ) is a German Catholic theologian and professor of ancient church history and patrology at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt .

Life

Johannes Hofmann studied history from 1971 to 1975 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he received his doctorate in philosophy under Peter Acht . From 1976 to 1983 he was a member of the Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich . From 1977 to 1982 he studied theology at the Paris-Lodron University in Salzburg , most recently as a research assistant at the International Research Center Salzburg. In 1982 he completed his studies with a master's degree in theology. After his ordination on June 25, 1983 in PassauFrom 1983 to 1986 he worked as a chaplain in Niederaltaich . From 1986 to 1991 he continued his studies as a research assistant or academic councilor a. Z. continued at the Chair of Church History at the University of Passau . In 1991 he completed his habilitation under the supervision of August Leidl at the University of Passau and acquired the degree of a doctorate in theology. As a private lecturer at the Catholic theological faculty of the University of Passau, he taught ancient church history and patrology in 1992/1993. Since 1993 he has been a full professor and holder of the chair for ancient church history and patrology at the theological faculty of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . In addition to his work as a university lecturer, Hofmann is involved in pastoral care in various parishes, from 2002 until his retirement in the parishes of Kösching, Kasing, Theißing and Großmehring. Johannes Hofmann has been a member of the WKSt.V. since 2011 . Unitas Frankonia Eichstätt .

Act

Johannes Hofmann was a full member of the Historical Section of the Bavarian Benedictine Academy from 1987 to 1999 and has been a member of the Central Institute for Central and Eastern European Studies at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt since 1994. 1994–2000, together with Hermenegild Biedermann OSA († 1994), Christian Hannick and Ernst Chr. Suttner, he was the editor of the “Eastern Church Studies” and from 1997 to 2000 together with the latter two of the series “The Eastern Christianity”. He held the position of scientific director of the Eastern Church Institute of the Bavarian-German Augustinian Province at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg from 1996 to 1998, was a member of the management committee of this institute from 1998 to 2009 and has been a member of its scientific advisory board since then. From 1997 to 2006 he was a member of the Joint Commission of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis and the German Bishops' Conference . Since 1998 he has been the representative of the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt for the course "Eastern Church Theology". Pope John Paul II appointed him Consultor of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches in 2000 . Since 2007 he has been a member of the joint commission of the German Bishops' Conference and the Orthodox Church in Germany . In 2008 he was blessing for mitrierten archpriest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church .
