Urban day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Urbanstag (also Sankt Urban or Urbani) since the 9th century, the 25. May .

Urban Day is dedicated to the memory of Pope Urban I , who is said to have been beheaded on May 25th. According to legend, it rained wine from heaven after he was beheaded.

The winemakers of Urbanstag has a special meaning as a weather rule :

  • "The weather around Sankt Urban shows the weather in autumn".
  • as the beginning of summer (with Konrad von Eichstätt): "And the zeyt has iren beginning on sant Urbans day".

The actual patron saint of the winemakers is, however, the holy Urban von Langres .
