Due to its favorable climatic conditions, today's municipal area was settled early on and was later divided between several manors. In the 15th century the churches of Diex and Grafenbach were expanded into fortified churches because of the Turkish threat .

The political community was formed in 1865 from the local communities Diexerberg and Haimburgerberg, which had existed since 1850. The municipality changed in 1973 when parts of the dissolved municipality of Haimburg and Griffen fell to Diex.

  • Defense system around Diexer Friedhof and parish church

Around the cemetery and church, the visitor marveled at a remarkable early modern, around 5 m high circular wall over an irregular, hexagonal floor plan, as well as three-quarter round towers at the kinks in the east and west . In the northeast corner there is a trapezoidal gate with loopholes . A late Gothic crucifixion group emblazoned above the profiled portal (originated around 1515), the gate itself is barrel-vaulted, a stone depicting the " oath hand of Odin" is walled in over the outside of the portal , marked on the cemetery side with 1535 (construction completion) and the door has shooting holes . On the inside of the defensive wall there is a covered, well-preserved defensive corridor with a shield wall and a crack that can be covered by movable beams .
