Klein-Mariazell is a village in the Vienna Woods in Lower Austria on the territory of the cadastral municipality of the same name in the municipality of Altenmarkt an der Triesting in the Baden district .
The former Benedictine monastery was named after the Duchy of Styria with Mariazell in Austria after the Duchy of Austria , in contrast to Mariazell in Styria . The Klein-Mariazell Abbey was abolished in 1782. The former collegiate church of Klein-Mariazell was elevated to a minor basilica in 2007 .
geography
The Rotte is 432 m above sea level. A. Height approx. 4 km north of Altenmarkt in a side valley of the Triestingtal towards Klausen-Leopoldsdorf . Here, in the Vienna Woods on the edge of the Alpine foothills , you will find a very wooded landscape and peaceful surroundings. The Catholic monastery is located on the old pilgrimage route, the Via Sacra from Vienna to Mariazell in Upper Styria.
Apart from a few pretty houses on the street and a restaurant, the place consists exclusively of the historic monastery buildings.
The village has almost 100 buildings with around 200 residents. The local area or the cadastral community of Kleinmariazell also includes the scattered houses Reitel-Graben and St. Coronastraße , as well as the individual layers Blumauer, Brandlhof, Faschingbauer, Gadinger, Gschwender, Handlhof, Myrtl, Paarhof, Pursenhof, Stegbauer and Stieglhof.
The place can be reached (from Vienna) via the Vienna outer ring motorway A 21, exit Mayerling - Alland - Altenmarkt - shortly after the end of the village to the right (north).

history
- around 1120 - Heinrich and Rapoto von Schwarzenburg-Nöstach found a monk's cell, which was subsequently expanded into a monastery with monks from Göttweig . Funding of the foundation u. a. by Margravine Agnes, the previously assumed founding role Margrave Leopold III. is no longer historically tenable.
- 1782 - The monastery was closed in the course of the Josephine reforms and then administered by various other monasteries or, most recently, by the Imperial and Royal State Property Administration.
- 1825 - The monastery and its goods were auctioned off. Several owners followed who used the monastery as a castle. The former collegiate church became a parish church.
- 1998 - After a general renovation by the Archdiocese of Vienna and private and public support, the church was returned to its intended purpose and consecrated. The current building ensemble corresponds to the most modern ideas of restoration and monument protection and is therefore not only a religious center, but also an architectural total work of art. The names Christoph Cardinal Schönborn and Deacon Dr. Franz Eckert.
- 2005 - Inauguration of the new monastery of the community of the "Samaritan Brothers of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary" from Poland, a branch of the "Samaritan Movement of Mary" by the Archbishop of Vienna. A residential complex is being built next to the church complex, u. a. also for eight religious priests.
- 2007 - On November 15, 2007 the church was opened by Pope Benedict XVI. raised to the minor basilica .
