The Triestingtal is a valley in Lower Austria through which the river Triesting flows . It is located in the districts of Lilienfeld and Baden . In the division of the old four quarters of Lower Austria, a western part of the valley is still in the Mostviertel , the larger part in the east in the industrial quarter .

geography

The approx. 600 m high judicial mountain forms the beginning of the Triesting valley in the west. From there it runs about 29 km eastwards and ends at Hirtenberg , where the Vienna Basin and the thermal baths line begin. The Triesting itself begins around Kaumberg , flows through the entire Triestingtal to Hirtenberg, where it leaves the Prealps or the Vienna Woods and flows through the Vienna Basin to Achau and there flows into the Schwechat .

The valley forms the southern border of the Vienna Woods . To the west of the Triestingtal, the Gölsental connects to the Richtberg . A mountain worth mentioning is the Araberg ( 800  m ).

The Triestingtal includes the political communities of Kaumberg , Altenmarkt , Weissenbach , Pottenstein , Hernstein (remote in the mountains), Berndorf , Furth (located in a side valley), Hirtenberg and Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn . With the exception of Kaumberg, these places formed the former judicial district Pottenstein, but also the area of the Evangelical parish of Berndorf.

history

As early as the Middle Ages , the region's hydropower was primarily used by mills and forges.

With the construction of the Leobersdorfer Bahn around 1877 and in the fin de siècle , the valley received a strong industrialization boost , with the names Krupp in Berndorf , Wilhelm Prym , Adolph Freiherr von Pittel and Starlinger in Weissenbach , Simon von Wimpffen in Neuhaus and that of Serafin Keller founded the Hirtenberger cartridge factory (from which Kromag later resulted) in Hirtenberg . The train also brought summer guests who knew how to discover the scenic beauties of the Triesting Valley: tourism and industry shaped the Triesting Valley from the last third of the 19th century, and artists such as the librettist Camillo Walzel , the architects Ludwig Baumann and Joseph Urban and the painters Franz Lefler and Heinrich Lefler enjoyed spending their time in the Triestingtal.

Many companies came and went - they also shaped the history of the communities of Kaumberg , Altenmarkt , Furth , Weissenbach an der Triesting , Pottenstein , Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn , Leobersdorf and Schönau - but only a few made the leap into the service society .

The 34.7 km long Triestingtal cycle path leads along the Triesting from Leobersdorf to the Richtberg ( Kaumberg ) , and there are also several mountain bike routes.
