The Starlinger Group is a global mechanical engineering company, whose Austrian parent company, based in Vienna and with plants in Weissenbach an der Triesting , St. Martin im Mühlkreis and Taicang in China , is owned by the Starlinger-Huemer family .

The group consists of the independent companies Starlinger & Co. GmbH , Georg Sahm GmbH & Co. KG , STC Spinnzwirn GmbH and unistrap GmbH . Associated companies are SML Maschinengesellschaft mbH and UNIMAS GmbH .

  • Starlinger & Co. GmbH develops and produces complete systems for the production of woven plastic sacks and recycling systems for plastics .
  • unistrap gmbh - also in Weissenbach - deals with the production of round fabrics such as hoses , the phosphating of metal components, machine assemblies and the PU foundry. Both companies have a city office in Vienna- Mariahilf .
  • Georg Sahm GmbH & Co. KG builds precision winding machines in Eschwege .
  • STC Spinnzwirn GmbH builds monofilament and ribbon systems, winding machines and winders in Chemnitz .

The company is the technology and world market leader in its field and the only global supplier of complete production systems for the manufacture of plastic fabric sacks. 45,000 looms have been installed worldwide to date. In 2017/18 the Starlinger Group achieved sales of over € 290 million with around 940 employees with over 900 customers in 136 countries. 1,000 ribbon extrusion lines from Starlinger with 200,000 spools produce 2.3 million tons of packaging fabric from extruded yarn every year .

history

  • 1835 - Foundation of the company Franz Laubek , which manufactures stationary steam engines and drive elements for the booming young industry of the aspiring bourgeoisie in the Biedermeier and Vormärz . In 1895 (??) the company is registered as Franz Laubek's successor.
  • 1836 - The companies Elis, Pretsch & Starlinger and Starlinger & Co., formerly Franz Laubek , are founded , both with their headquarters in Vienna VI, Mollardgasse 85a.
  • 1897 - Franz Starlinger converts production to textile machines . These are mainly trimmings machines for fringes, borders and cords.
  • 1913 - The company is entered in the commercial register as Starlinger & Co.
  • 1920 - Change of the production program to winding machines for the weaving industry .
  • 1955 - Construction of special winding machines for fibers made from the newly developed polypropylene .
  • 1959 - Franz X. Starlinger-Huemer (1933–2002) and his wife Erna take over the business as owner and managing director.
  • 1968 - Development into an export company for machines for fabric sack production. On the site of the former Pittel cement works in Weissenbach an der Triesting, the first assembly hall is being built in which circular looms, winding machines, assembly systems, printing machines and baling presses are constructed and manufactured and purchased ribbon systems are traded.
  • 1973 - At the first Austrian machine exhibition in Beijing , the self-developed circular loom is presented, of which 30 complete production lines for sack production are sold to China in the following years .
  • 1982 - Ms. Erna Starlinger-Huemer bought the former Prym plant in Weissenbach and her own company Unistrap produced ribbons and PP bags on Starlinger machines , with which she has been manufacturing packaging for the Austrian Post since 1974.
  • 1990 - Acquisition of a license for the production of ribbon extrusion lines; In-house developments. Starlinger is growing rapidly and becomes a global player and world market leader in the field of ribbon extrusion systems and circular looms.
  • 1995–1997 - Starlinger & Co GmbH takes over the plastics machinery division from competitor Lenzing AG . The independent company SML Maschinengesellschaft mbH is created.
  • 2000 - A recycling division is established with the aim of developing recycling technology.
  • 2001 - Prize of the WirtschaftsBlatt as the best family business in Vienna.
  • 2002 - Takeover of Sahm . After the death of Franz X. Huemer-Starlinger , his daughter Angelika Huemer took over the position of managing partner of the family business.
  • 2006 - The 400th ribbon extrusion line worldwide is delivered.
  • 2007 - Austrian Export Prize - in the Industry category - by the WKO for 40 years of export tradition, constant expansion, and an export share of 99% since 1997.
  • 2009 - The company president of Starlinger and managing director of unistrap GmbH and SL-LEASING GmbH (real estate), Erna Starlinger-Huemer , receives the Great Silver Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria .
  • 2010 - The company celebrates its 175th anniversary.
  • 2012 - Opening of the new production facility for the viscotec division in St. Martin, Upper Austria; Austrian export award - in the industry category - by the WKO [1]
  • 2013 - Founding of the Starlinger consumer bags division
  • 2015 - Opening of the new headquarters of the American Starlinger-Sahm, Inc. subsidiary in Fountain Inn, SC, USA
  • 2017 - Opening of the new headquarters of the recycling technology division in Weissenbach / Triesting, Furtherstrasse 47
  • 2018 - Starlinger takes over the Barmag Spinnzwirn division from OC Oerlikon . The independent company STC Spinnzwirn GmbH is created.
