Tullnerfeld
The Tullnerfeld , also known as the Tullner Basin , in Lower Austria is a gravel area poured over by the Danube , which stretches from Krems an der Donau in the west to the Wiener Pforte in the east and is framed by the Wagram in the north and the Vienna Woods in the south .
topography
The Tullnerfeld is 48 km long and up to 14 km wide. The Quaternary Basin reaches heights of 200 m (near Krems) to 170 m near Korneuburg. The district town of Tulln is located roughly in the center of the basin. The Tullnerfeld, located south of the Danube, is included in the (extended) Mostviertel ; the new Lower Austrian spatial planning makes it part of the central Lower Lower Austria region .
It is divided by the Kleiner Wagram , an approx. 2 to 3 meter high step in the terrain, which is well defined in the western part. In the eastern part of Tullnerfeld this step is washed out and barely visible.
The Tullnerfeld, which adjoins the Wachau , is also traversed by the Danube, into which numerous tributaries flow: the Krems , the Traisen , the Kamp , the Perschling , the Große Tulln , the Kleine Tulln and the Schmida .
Surname
The toponym - field ( althochdeutsch field , open, non-forested land ') for a basin landscape are found in Lower Austria in March field (in the wine district) in Steinfeld (the industrial area) or at Ybbsfeld (Mostviertel).
traffic
High-ranking road connections in Tullnerfeld are the S 5 Stockerau expressway from Krems to Stockerau and its continuation in the direction of Vienna as the A 22 Donauufer motorway in an east-west direction and the S 33 Kremser expressway from St. Pölten to Krems along the Traisen in a north-south direction.
Exist on rail connections
- the Franz-Josefs-Bahn , which enters the Tullnerfeld northwest of Tulln, crosses the Danube and then runs approximately parallel to the Danube towards Vienna,
- the Tullnerfelder Bahn from St. Pölten to Tulln and its branch to Krems,
- the Absdorf – Krems railway line, which largely runs at the foot of the Wagram, followed by the Absdorf – Stockerau local railway and the subsequent north-west railway towards Vienna.
- As part of the main line for Europe , the Tullnerfeld section of the new Westbahn was built by December 2012 .
Tullnerfeld station has been an important regional station for all of these railways since 2012.
After all, the Danube is also an important supraregional transport route.
economy
Important cities with industry are Stockerau , Korneuburg , Tulln and Krems .
With the Danube run-of- river power plants Altenwörth and Greifenstein , the caloric power plants in Dürnrohr , Theiss and Korneuburg and the Zwentendorf nuclear power plant , which never went into operation , the Tullnerfeld plays an important role in electricity production.
Agriculture and floriculture have a major impact on the economy. The city has consolidated its reputation through the numerous nurseries around the district capital Tulln , through numerous trade fairs and exhibitions as well as competence centers, which have since received international attention. The permanent garden show Garten Tulln , with which the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna also works, is a destination for numerous visitors. But the Tulln garden show at the exhibition center also plays a major economic factor. This is also reflected in some names, such as the nickname flower city for Tulln or Rosenbrücke for the important Danube bridge in this region. But numerous products are also grown in agriculture. The Tullnerfeld cabbage is traditional , a variety of white cabbage that is also entered in the register of traditional foods and which gives the growing region its name as part of the Genussregion Österreich project . It is similar in cattle breeding, where the Tullnerfeld pig is registered.
Culture
Cultural centers are Krems ( Kunsthalle Krems , Caricature Museum Krems ), Tulln (Minorite monastery, Danube stage ), Grafenegg Castle (Advent market, exhibitions), Thürnthal Castle (exhibitions, concerts) and Atzenbrugg Castle (Schubertiaden).
