The Perschling is a right tributary of the Danube in Lower Austria . The name means something like "Birkenbach" and comes from Slavic and Avar tribes that infiltrated in the 5th century (Slavic * Berznika to * berza = birch).

It rises in Perschenegg (Pyhra municipality) below the Gaishof (590 m) in the so-called "Binderholz" and flows through Pyhra , Böheimkirchen , Kapelln , Weißenkirchen an der Perschling and Atzenbrugg , before flowing into the Danube at Kleinschönbichl near Zwentendorf . The actual river arises north of Böheimkirchen in Weisching through the tributary of the more water-rich Michelbach , which receives the Stössingbach south of Böheimkirchen near Furth.

The entire course of the river is accompanied by thick wood on the banks. Between Atzenbrugg and Pischelsdorf the Perschling flows as a low river with barrages and an often waterless flood channel.

The fish population of the Perschling consists of carp , tench , pikeperch , pike , eel , whitefish and rainbow trout , which are also fished. In the lower reaches the Perschling is a real lowland river and has a distinctive Potamal , a type of water that is rarely found in Lower Austria. It is therefore home to a relic fauna of mussels and crabs, including a large number of Red List species (including what is probably the most valuable population of Annex II species of the Habitats Directive Unio crassus PHILIPSSON 1788).
