Alon Yavnai

Alon Yavnai ( Hebrew אלון יבנאי; * 1969 ) is an Israeli jazz pianist and composer .

Live and act

Yavnai, who grew up in Tel Aviv , began playing the piano at the age of four; at the age of 13 he accompanied singers professionally. After graduating from Thelma Yalin Art School and Givatajim Conservatory, he continued his studies at the Berklee School of Music in Boston , Massachusetts . There he worked a. a. with Paquito D'Rivera in several formations, also with Regina Carter , the New York Voices and his own trio. He also played with Freddie Hubbard , Joe Lovano , Nancy Wilson , Rosa Passos , Leny Andrade , Louis Hayes , Bob Moses , Ravi Coltrane , Romero Lubambo , Claudio Roditi , Rufus Reid , Jim Chapin , Gregg August and George Garzone . In 2001 he presented his debut album DS Al Coda ; In 2008, as a member of the Paquito D'Rivera Quintet, Yavnai received a Grammy (in the "Best Latin Jazz Album" category ) for his contribution to the Funk Tango album , for which Yavnai had written the title track . In the same year he presented the album Travel Notes , recorded in solo and trio line-up with bassist Omer Avital and Jamey Haddad (percussion). In 2012 a joint album was released with the NDR Bigband .
