New York Voices is an American vocal group that is active in the field of jazz , but also takes up aspects of pop , R&B and bossa nova . It is called "one of the world's best vocal jazz ensembles." The singers of the ensemble "are characterized above all by their incredible stylistic versatility."

history

The group was formed as a vocal quintet in 1987 after a European tour by students at Ithaca College . In 1989 she got a recording deal with GRP Records . Since 1995 New York Voices has appeared in a quartet formation (with accompanying band). Her collaboration with the Count Basie Orchestra , the album Count Basie Orchestra with New York Voices Live at Manchester Craftsmen's Guild , won a Grammy in 1997 . They are also active in projects by other artists, such as The Ancient Tower by Robert Lepley (EarthBeat Records), Heirs to Jobim (BMG Records), Don Sebeskys I Remember Bill (BMG), Jim Halls By Arrangement (Telarc), A Love Affair - the Music of Ivan Lins (TELARC) or Irving Berlin's Louisiana Purchase (DRG).
